See for yourself how lovely they are!
Meet the Barn
We are convinced we have the single sweetest pony in the entire world here at SNF: Foxy Lady. Sometimes referred to as a “Barbie Doll pony,” Foxy has a beautiful golden coat and a flowing blonde mane and tail. She is a Welsh Pony/Arabian cross and the oldest pony at the barn at 30 years old! Foxy loves the little ones and has taught more children to ride than we can count. She is 110% reliable and always takes the best care of her riders. Her general perfection as a pony has earned her quite the fan club, from kids in lessons to birthday parties to camps. We don’t know what we would do without our Foxy—she’s one of the absolute greats.
To know Rosie is to love Rosie. She’s a beautiful black and white paint horse with an absolute heart of gold. With her sturdy built, her extra-comfortable gaits, and her completely fearless attitude, she is the perfect lesson horse. If a new student is fearful, timid, or has had a bad experience with riding, Rosie shows them the joy of riding again. She’s safe as could be and accommodating of all riders. We’ve lost track of how many people have vowed they’d never ride again, then had a lesson on Rosie and fell in love with the sport all over again! She is the backbone and one of the founding members of our lesson program. Our Rosie is truly one in a million.
Oops a Daisy
Daisy is Rosie’s daughter! When we first got Rosie, we didn’t know she was pregnant, and several months later, she surprised us with a beautiful baby, whom we named Oops a Daisy, or just Daisy for short. Almost 10 years later, Daisy is still here at SNF, proving to be just as vital to the lesson program as her momma. Daisy is slightly more opinionated than Rosie, but just as bombproof. In the past few years she’s shown us what a fantastic jumper she is, too! She has a very rhythmical, balanced canter that makes it easy to find a distance to a jump. Daisy LOVES food and sometimes gets a little too excited when it comes to treats—make sure you keep a flat palm when feeding this cookie monster!
KC Kat came to SNF as a resale project in 2012, but when we realized what a good boy he was, we vowed never to let him go. KC is a Thoroughbred who tried and failed to be a race horse (you’ll understand why if you ever get the pleasure of riding this pokey boy). None of the typical Thoroughbred stereotypes apply to this handsome man—he is totally quiet, not afraid of anything, and his favorite gait is the halt. He is the ultimate confidence builder with a canter you’ll dream about. He has been horse shown by many, in both the hunter and dressage rings. If you’re looking for a partner who is 100% reliable and a ton of fun to ride, KC Kat is your guy. He’s happy to let you groom and pamper him for hours, take you on a leisurely trail ride, jump around a course, or put in a solid training level dressage test. They don’t come any sweeter.
Goldie is a staple of our lesson program. Before she came to live with us at SNF, she was showing a young rider the ropes of eventing and was apparently a cross country machine! Goldie, whose show name is Medium Fry, can teach the tiniest children their very first riding lesson or jump around a course of fences. She’s a really good-natured gal who never says no to anything you ask of her. Goldie is actually blind in her right eye, but it doesn’t affect her at all! We are grateful to have our Goldie pony as part of our lineup of lesson ponies.
Only At Macy's
Only at Macy’s, Macy for short, is an 18-year-old Paint/Quarter Horse mare. She is a beautiful chestnut with a blonde mane and tail and high white stockings up her legs. When she was younger, Macy was Melanie’s show horse, carrying her through second level dressage. Since then, she has joined our string of lesson horses, where she’s made it quite clear this is the life she prefers. Macy has become one of our best teachers, taking a special liking to the younger beginner riders. She’s become an expert at teaching kids to canter, and although she prefers flat work, she will pop you over a few jumps if you ask nicely. Macy was bottle fed as a baby, so even now as an adult, she’ll suck on her tongue like a baby bottle after she eats!
Aragon might try to convince you he is not a gentle giant with his grumpy faces, but don’t let him fool you. This 20-year-old Thoroughbred Percheron cross is a total teddy bear and would never hurt a fly. He has evented through Novice level and competed through second level dressage with his owner but is currently enjoying his life as a lesson horse here at SNF. He is that rare mix of athletic and kind and steps up to the plate no matter what is asked of him. We are lucky to have such a reliable schoolmaster in the barn!
Rebekka is by far the queen diva of SNF. A Dutch Warmblood mare imported years ago from Holland, Rebekka has never suffered in silence nor wanted for anything in her entire life. Despite her boss mare attitude, she is actually very sweet and will lick your hands for as long as you’ll let her. She protested loudly to life as a dressage horse, so we gave her a try as a hunter, which she made clear she loved! Rebekka has the most rhythmical canter that makes it nearly impossible to miss to the fences, making her a favorite among the hunter students. She’s also surprised everyone with her patience and steadiness when teaching more novice students to jump.
Daiquiri Dancer, better known as Dee Dee, was born here at SNF almost 10 years ago and is a half-sister to Captain Morgan. She’s an Oldenburg mare who stands about 15.2 hands tall. Dee Dee took a little longer to grow up and mature than some of the other horses, but now that her head is in the game, she’s been a delight to work with. She spent some time in the hunter world, where her big, floaty movement and careful, tidy jumping style really got her noticed. Recently, Dee Dee decided she would like some time off from jumping, so she’s debuted in the dressage world with her rider Rachel. The two have proved to be a great team, highlighted by their Reserve Champion Musical Freestyle at BLM Championships in 2018. Dee Dee might be part circus horse, too—she will smile on command if you ask her to!
Noble, who shows under the name Noble Impression, is one of our dressage schoolmasters. In his prime, he competed successfully through second level. He and Kathy won many awards together over the years, including the BLM Musical Freestyle Championship. A petite chestnut Thoroughbred in his early twenties, Noble is a kind, patient horse who enjoys teaching riders the ropes of movements up through third level. Just hold on tight if you’re schooling his flying changes—he gets serious air!
Rasta is one of our lovely large ladies: as a 16.1 hand Oldenburg, she is a big, thick girl. Rasta’s background is in the hunter arena, but she has recently proved to be quite the successful dressage competitor as well. In 2018, she had big wins in large, ultra-competitive divisions at both Lendon Gray’s Youth Dressage Festival and BLM Championships. Aside from her athletic talents, Rasta has another unique skill: her singing voice! She often hums in her stall, in cross ties, or under saddle. We are happy to have such a sweet, multitalented horse in the barn!
Ty is a sweet, multitalented gentleman. He is fairly new to SNF, but with his kind, gentle demeanor and willingness to try anything, he fit right in. Ty, who shows under the name Battle Royalty, has a background in eventing, but he and his rider Maggie have been dabbling in the hunter ring, as well. Ty is teaching Maggie the intricacies of riding and having a lot of fun doing it. The pair hopes to compete in some combined trainings next year as well.
Spanky, whose show name is Flacon, doesn’t know he is only 15.1 hands (don’t tell him!); he thinks he’s the biggest horse in the barn. He also doesn’t know he’s an old man, born in 1998, (don’t tell him this either!). Spanky recently retired from his Grand Prix showing and is looking to teach a new rider the ropes. Spanky was imported from Denmark years ago, where he spent time in the jumper arena. When he arrived in the US, he spent some time in the hunter ring before finding his home in the dressage world. Since then, he has earned Anecia her silver medal, Melanie her bronze, silver, and gold medals, and Laura her bronze medal. He is a phenomenal little horse with a show record a mile long. If you feed Spanky a treat, he’ll lick your hand endlessly afterward!
Sassy, who shows under the name Sangria, is a 2012 Oldenburg mare and the daughter of Rebekka. She was born right here at SNF and was supposed to be sold, but Melanie quickly fell in love with this fancy lady and made sure that didn’t happen. Sassy definitely lives up to her name some days, but when all the pieces fall into place, she is astounding to watch. Her development into a dressage competitor has been fun to watch over the past few years. She is working on the Grand Prix and has been showing FEI. Sassy is a really exciting prospect that we can’t wait to watch reach her potential.
Mazur, affectionately nicknamed Mo, is the hair envy of Second Nature Farm. His long, lustrous, wavy forelock that often falls over his eyes just add to his cuteness factor. What Mo lacks in height he makes up for in presence in the show ring. He has taken his owner Lauren from training level to third level, helping her earn her bronze medal in 2018! If you’re lucky, you’ll catch Mazur on one of his rare jump days; although he specializes in dressage, this little guy can jump the moon! Look for him moving up to fourth level in 2019. He is a force to be reckoned with.
Born and raised here at SNF, Captain is Anecia’s partner in crime. He is an 11-year-old KWPN Dutch Warmblood and a half-brother to Dee Dee! His favorite activities under saddle include hacking out at Fair Hill and showing off his flying lead changes (he holds the title of best lead-changer in the barn!). Captain’s best friends include his turnout buddy Prior (look for them tearing each other’s blankets off in the field beside the driveway) and his barn neighbor Santi (look for them sticking their tongues out at each other… They’ve even been caught chewing on each other’s tongues!). Needless to say, Captain has a ton of personality. He & Anecia have competed very successfully through the Intermediare I level and have plans to move up to Intermediare II and Grand Prix in 2019.
Crown Royal, better known around the barn as Santi, is SNF’s newest American citizen. He flew over from Germany during the summer of 2018 to be Anecia’s newest partner and Captain’s brother. Santi is the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. He is absolutely breathtaking to look at and watch, with a personality to match. Nothing fazes this guy, from hacking out on the trails to his first overnight shows to coliseum arenas. He has already made a splash in the show ring at first and second levels, including musical freestyles at both levels, which helped Anecia earn her bronze freestyle bar! Santi is just a pleasure to have in the barn and has made an excellent addition to the SNF family.
Chavi is a handsome 17-year-old Arabian/Warmblood cross whose owner Joan brought him to SNF this year. They have been such a fun addition to the barn! Chavi has the sweetest, most curious personality. He has been rehabbing an old injury in one of our walk-out stalls in the top barn and enjoys company when you walk by his stall. In him prime, he competed through the Prix St. Georges level, but after he and Joan both sustained injuries, they took a break from the show ring. Just this fall of 2018, Joan and Chavi returned horse showing, this time at training level. We think Chavi was a little offended by training level—he threw in a few extracurricular flying changes just to show off how talented he is!
Lennox, or Lenny, is an 18 hand chestnut gelding with a personality to match his size. Leonard frequently finds himself getting into trouble, from rearranging his stall, to unlocking it himself, his cheeky personality makes him quite the handful. Although he lacks in ground manners, he is quite the gentleman under saddle. Lenny and his owner, Amanda, have made considerable progress in the hunter/equitation ring this past year and are excited about the upcoming show season!
Bacardi was born here at SNF but was sold as a young horse. With that owner, he was a big shot event horse, competing up and down the east coast through training level eventing and second level dressage. We just recently got Bacardi back and have been having so much fun with him. He’s nothing like the young horse we sold all those years ago; he’s a big, fancy, well-schooled 12-year-old now! It’s really cool to see the progress he has made, and we are all excited to continue to progress this athlete.
Gizmo is the best little man we have around the farm these days. He is going straight to heaven. Gizmo loves kids and is happy to plop around all day with them on his back. He also loves to canter and is happy to help our instructors teach their students how to do so. You can take Giz anywhere with anyone and he is always a gentleman, unless his favorite girl Goldie is around then he’ll choose to run her side instead.
Freddie is Megan’s first real fancy horse. He is 7 years old and full of potential, currently working on Second level with hopes to moves into FEI in a few years. Fred can be a typical teenage boy with his over zealous attitude, almost all the time, but Megan still loves his shenanigans. From winning High Point to running into trees Freddie is a handsome and talented dude.
Busted on Broadway
Busted on Broadway, better known as Buster, is a happy guy who loves to jump! In his old career he was an event horse, now he teaches lessons and goes in the hunter ring. Buster has been to tons of horse shows and has lots of milage over fences. He is always happy to see you and loves to work. His only flaw is he sometimes gets excited over the jumps and leaps in the air if you don’t stop his train of thought in time.
Calypso is a young man owned by Erin. He is the sweetest little TB you will ever meet. Calypso likes to do the hunters and jump around a course.
Dancer or Dylan is Lauren’s new high class guy. She recently bought his as a move up from her other pony Mazur. Dylan is very flashy with a white face, leg, and a big shoulder in the trot! He is a 12 year old warmblood imported from Germany a few years ago who loves to make grumpy old man faces. Lauren is planning to show the YR tests and possibility to NAYC with him in the future.
2013 Hanoverian Gelding “Player “ is a lovebug with personality plus! He took his Young Rider through 3rd level and even loves to play with his musical freestyle! We are lucky enough to have him as part of our dressage team and can’t wait to see him in the show ring with his new riders.
Sign, Sealed, Delivered
Wilz a 2002 Oldenburg gelding. This pure gentleman has shown FEI with his owner and is now on loan to SNF to show his current ride the ropes in the show ring! He still knows all the tricks but is gentle and patient enough to pass on his knowledge. This beautiful boy is a pleasure to have on the farm.
The Oldenburg mare is an eye catcher with her blonde mane and tail. She had been on the SNF Dressage payroll but she does enjoy jumping around a course and trail riding. She is a big girl with a big personality she prefers things to be her idea but when asked nicely she is happy to play along..
Warrior Prince is a 2013 TB gelding. He has recently come to SNF with very little education but has proven to be Quick learner while being gentle and kind. He has been working on his dressage but he seems to also want to jump around in the sand box. A bright future for this one !
Ruby is nothing short of her name, a GEM! She is a 2003, warmblood, mare. She joined the SNF in 2020 and has quickly become a favorite among the riders and instructors. Ruby is truly a jack of all trades, she’s done dressage, XC, hunters, equitation, you name it. Before life, at SNF she was at Dickinson College being used in their IHSA program. Ruby is as easy going as they come and will do anything her rider asks of her. She can do a beginner lesson one day and then jump 3’ the next. When she’s not being ridden you will find her out in the field staring at her favorite pony Moon!
Kabi is a 2007, PRE, Gelding imported from Spain. He has the best personality and takes great care of his owner Katie. They are having great success at shows working on the Training level. Kabi is also working towards showing Third level with Melanie and learning his changes like a pro. He is a joy to ride and quite the Spanish dancer!
Court is a 2007, gelding, and the most wonderful little thoroughbred you'll ever meet. He goes with the flow, is very kind, and is happy to take the more advanced riders or the newbies for a ride. He has become a favorite lesson horse at SNF because of his disposition and his willingness to work.
Moon is a 1998, Welsh, gelding, and a sassy little pony, but an absolute gem! He happens to look like an old pony SNF had named Soldier. That meant Moon had to join the crew! He was been a wonderful addition and a star in the hunter ring. Moon loves to jump around a course and is great at teaching the little ones how to ride. He may be small, but he has a large personality.
EZ came to Danielle as a resale project in 2018 but he quickly stole her heart. This guy truly fits his name, EASY, he has an incredibly sweet deposition and has all the qualities of a super star lesson horse. Although he is only 6 years old you would never guess it by his easy going ride. EZ is still young but is catching on quickly and learning fast how to be a lesson horse. When he’s not being ridden you’ll be sure to catch him playing with his buddies out in the field!
Bird is a beautiful 17.1 hand Hanoverian/Percheron cross. She is a dark bay with a touch of brown on her nose and a small white star. Bird loves treats! She is always looking for them! Her owner Shanna, only purchased her about a year ago and they have already formed on unbreakable bond. Bird came to her as a dressage horse but has recently started doing hunter shows, cross country and her favorite trail riding at Fair Hill. The future holds lots of new adventures for them.
Westley is a seventeen-year-old OTTB who evented through Prelim before telling his mom he needed a career change. They went to a dressage show for fun, and ended up moving up to third level by the end of the year! Wes loves his new job and has helped Maija get her bronze medal, "L" Program scores, and pass her pony club "B" dressage specialty. He enjoys ear scratches and face rubs.
Cinnamon Bun & Pop Tart
Shorter than a Great Dane dog, wider than they are tall, queen diva attitudes, dressed in hot pink blankets… That would be Cinnamon Bun and Pop Tart, our miniature horses. These munchkins are too small to be ridden but provide endless entertainment for everyone at SNF. They’re a package deal and have been known to escape their shared stall if you take one away from the other! Cinnamon Bun and Pop Tart love visitors, so go see these cheeky ponies in the lower barn shed row next time you’re at SNF.
Chevy & Titan
Chevy and Titan are the resident dogs at SNF. They are extremely friendly and love to bark at each other all the time. Chevy is a Pembrooke Corgi with a big personality and lots of tricks. Titan is a German Shepard who runs all day long and has the ability to fold in half. Both dogs love their farm life and love to get attention!
